Queenstown is Open

Coming to Queenstown this weekend? Well amidst the crazy storm we find ourselves us in, it really has never been a better time to be a domestic tourist or a Queenstown local.  There are some incredible prices going down and this week the Rockies team have been out and about getting amongst some of the epicness we often leave to tourists. Interesting how you can live in Queenstown for so long yet have never been on a jetboat?!

Check out the below and support our local businesses who are doing their utmost to make our Queens Birthday Weekend awesome and affordable. We know some businesses are hurting but we love the spirit of so many to connect with locals and domestic tourists.  Most of the below is kid-friendly with the exception of a few that is just for the mums and dads.

K Jet – locally owned and operated Kawarau Jet is offering $59 jetboat rides all weekend long for locals ($89 if you are from outside the Southern Lakes Region). We’re booked to go on Saturday with our toddlers and we can’t wait (kids under two can ride and they’re free!)

Time Tripper – we did this this week and it was AMAZING. It is a 15 minute animated show taking you back 90 million years and charting Queenstown across the ages. After the show you see the massive eels and fish being fed and even a few diving ducks.  An amazing locals discount is currently running so ask about that!

Southern Discoveries – if you fancy a scenic trip around Lake Wakatipu this is the weekend to do it.  Adults cruise for only $29 and kids are FREE! There are some great offers on their Milford Sound cruises this weekend too (kids again are free on all of them)

Ziptrek – these guys have collaborated with NZ Music Month to bring a unique music event amongst the trees this Saturday 30th and Sunday 31st May.  It’s so awesome that it has sold out but they are accepting names for a waitlist!  They are offering 40% off all tours for a limited time so now is the time to get ziplining team.  PS. This one is just for Mums and Dads!

Go Orange – kick their engines into gear again this weekend and all kids ride free! Use the code KIDSGOFREE at checkout. There is also a shorter 25 minute ride if that takes your fancy.

Kiwi Birdlife Park – this place is a seriously special part of Queenstown! 5 acres of forestation and amazing creatures in central Queenstown.  The daily conservation shows and kiwi feeding sessions are a must-see.  You really get up close and personal with the kiwis! The team are offering 50% off entry passes when you prove you are a New Zealand resident.

Rockies – a trip to see us in store at Remarkables Park is a must-do! On Saturday and Sunday we are open 10am-5pm and on Monday 9am-5pm. As we enter June we have all the winter essentials and kids footwear for your adventurers.  In our eyes every kid needs a Therm jacket, Crywolf rainboots, Lamington socks, merino from Little Flock of HorrorsBand of Boys and Minti have all the goods for warm layering and for the babes in your life check out the incredible range from Wilson + Frenchy.

Queenstown's official tourism site has more great info for families visiting Queenstosn as does Kidzgo.

Hope that whets your appetite! Have a great long weekend from all at Rockies x
